The two pieces of evidence the state took in consideration to Adnan’s guilt was Jay’s story and Adnan’s cell phone log.
She could have easily brought a different scenario into Adnan’s trial but didn’t take the initiative. Especially, as an athletic female, Hae would have done great damage to Adnan but he had no visible bruises or marks after the incident.Īdnan’s lawyer, Maria Cristina Gutierrez, had quite a large role in Adnan’s guilt too. If Adnan was guilty, he likely would have had marks on him from Hae’s attempts to escape.
With no noticeable wounds on Hae’s body, she is believed to have died from manual strangulation. The hair, dirt samples, and clothing fibers all came back negative.
This could only mean that science lies or Jay lies. None of the DNA tests matched Adnan either. When following Jay’s story, the story the state used to rule Adnan guilty, Hae was buried within 4 hours of her death. However, when the police found Hae’s body she was buried on her right. In an article from The Guardian by Rabia Chaundry, medical examiners and forensic pathologist say Hae Min Lee died with fixed frontal lividity, where the blood pools to the front of your body.
As well, readers have the freedom to digest information at their own pace.Īnyways, what I found inconsistent about Adnan’s guilt was the fact that all the scientific studies were contrary. I believe it is the happy “medium” of the many media texts. Blogs give readers direct links to sources and an equal opportunity to form their own opinion on the source. Hence why I chose to present my findings on this incident through a blog post.
Although the Serial podcast is one of the best sources for research I preferred watching videos and reading articles/posts for evidence as it caters to my short attention span and incredible selective hearing. It all started with some research on many different websites and a thorough inspection on the Maps, Documents, etc. 2016.If you asked me if I believed Adnan Syed was guilty or innocent after my first episode of Serial, I would say he is guilty. “Adnan Syed Is Innocent and I Can Prove It: Lawyer Rabia Chaudry.” People Crime. After considering the facts and evidence again, I have come to the conclusion that Adnan Syed is innocent. These characteristics do not match up with those of a murderer.īefore, I believed that Adnan Syed was guilty. Since he has been in jail, Syed has had no bad behavior. He had no history of crimes or disturbances prior to being arrested for the murder of Hai. He was an excellent student and seemed to get a long with everybody. This shows that Jay’s story did not line up, which means he was most likely not telling the truth.įinally, everyone who seemed to know Adnan Syed did not think that he was capable of such a crime. Evidence showed that she was lying somewhat flat on her face for 10-12 hours before being left in the park. Apparently, it was impossible that Hai had been in the back of the car four hours after being killed. There was an autopsy done that proves otherwise. He said that the body was in the back of his car, four hours after Hai had been killed. In the podcast, Jay (Adnan’s friend), explained that Adnan asked him to help bury Hai’s body. This website explained other evidence that was not mentioned in the podcast. On this website, it had a section on crime and Adnan Syed’s case was featured. Therefore, this is not a valid piece of evidence to prove that Syed killed his girlfriend. I mean, why would someone be calling their ex-girlfriend so late at night on a school night? Although this was weird, there is no evidence that these phone records mean anything. Many people who believe that Syed is guilty base their opinion off of this evidence. It showed that Adnan had called her multiple times. On the Serial website, there were phone records of the night before Hai went mis sing. After looking into external sources, I also determined that Adnan Syed was innocent. At the end of the podcast, the narrator, Sarah Koenig, seemed convinced that Syed was innocent. On the other hand, there were facts that could prove his innocence. At the beginning of the podcast, there was a lot of evidence that lead me to believe that Adnan Syed was guilty. After listening to Serial, it was difficult to decide whether Adnan Syed was guilty or innocent.
